DESCRIPTION

A small free-blown dark olive amber utility jar, attributed to the South Stoddard, NH glass manufacturing district, c 1840-1860. A rare form for Stoddard glass, with a pushed-in open pontil scarred base, and a sheared, fire-polished, upright mouth, apparently made for a drop-on tin cap. Shiny glass with good crude character, and no damage or stains. Measures approximately 6-1/2 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches wide at the base. A highly-appealing early jar in a rare diminutive size.
